The Experimental Kitchen Project of APAE de Sete Lagoas is more than an initiative; it is a seed of hope planted in the lives of extraordinary women. Its goal is to transform vulnerability into autonomy, empowering single mothers of people with disabilities to become protagonists of their own stories. The reality for 90% of these mothers is one of exclusive dedication to their children, who often have severe disabilities and require full-time care. This journey of unconditional love, though noble, prevents them from accessing the formal job market, resulting in profound financial dependence and, at times, social isolation. The project was designed to break this cycle. The Experimental Kitchen will become a space for learning and empowerment, where these mothers will be trained in the production of high-quality savory snacks and frozen meals. By offering a flexible trade with the potential to generate income from home, the Project ensures that they can balance the vital care of their children with the opportunity to support themselves. This training is not merely technical; it is a restoration of dignity, self-esteem, and the possibility of dreaming again. APAE Sete Lagoas, with 53 years of history and recognized for its public service at the federal, state, and municipal levels, is the solid foundation for this initiative. The institution serves more than 900 people with intellectual and multiple disabilities, as well as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), serving as a pillar of support in the areas of Social Assistance, Education, and Health. Its work impacts 19 municipalities in the region, including Araçaí, Baldim, Cachoeira da Prata, Caetanópolis, Capim Branco, Cordisburgo, Fortuna de Minas, Funilândia, Inhaúma, Jequitibá, Maravilhas, Papagaios, Pequi, Pompeu, Prudente de Morais, Quartel Geral, and Santana de Pirapama. The implementation of the Experimental Kitchen Project will allow APAE to expand its mission, going beyond the care and rehabilitation of its residents to empower their families and strengthen the community as a whole. We believe that by investing in the strength of these mothers, we will be building a more just, inclusive, and supportive society. With the support of international partners, we can turn this vision into reality, providing a brighter future for mothers and children, where economic inclusion is as vital as social inclusion.

The Experimental Kitchen project is aimed at socially vulnerable women, mostly single mothers of people with disabilities, who represent 90% of the families served by APAE. Given their full-time dedication to their children, these mothers have low incomes and face barriers to formal employment. The project will train an initial group of 20 mothers per 60-day class. APAE, which serves 900 people with disabilities, aims to empower families and strengthen the community with this project, providing a space for classes that will allow for ongoing training for these and other women.
