The project aims at acquiring a video laryngoscope, to be used by the Oncology Sector of the Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Rio Claro, specifically for diagnosis and monitoring of the treatment of patients with head and neck cancer. Due to its expertise in cancers related to the head and neck, Santa Casa seeks to evolve with its technological park and provide the best diagnosis and treatment to its patients. Today, the Oncology sector does not have a Viodeolaparoscope device. This equipment is used to visualize, in real time, the airways of a patient and their respective characteristics. This happens thanks to the use of a probe camera, which reaches the vocal cords and the adjacent region. Thus, in cases of need for intubation through difficult airways (VAD), that is, airways that may be obstructed due to an atypical anatomical formation, a foreign body located in that space, unknown content or another circumstantial reason, the The use of video laryngoscope is considered ideal among the options for the procedure. Acquiring a videolaryngoscope is important because the Oncology Sector still does not have this equipment and the diagnosis of cancer is often carried out at the Centro Cirúrgico da Santa Casa. The use of the Surgical Center must be scheduled and may take up to a few weeks; Like the videolaryngoscope, the oncologist himself can make the diagnosis of the disease during the consultation, in his office, in a non-invasive procedure. This is very important, as there is no loss of time to start the treatment of the cancer patient. The sooner the cancer treatment begins, the more chances the patient has of being cured. The diagnosis made in the office using the videolaryngoscope alleviates the flow of the surgical center, which can attend to other surgeries, instead of being used to diagnose head and neck cancer. The laryngoscopy exam so far is requested by the physician to be performed by the Unified Health System and this means that the patient has to move from the office to the location of the exam and return to the office days later to deliver the exam result. to the doctor. With the videolaryngoscope, this entire procedure is performed during the consultation. Another strong point of the project is that the oncologist is already trained in the use of the equipment, being able to handle it as soon as it is available for use.

The target audience of the project are patients referred by the public health service of the 26 cities that make up the Regional Health Department of Piracicaba who are suspected or bearers of head and neck cancer, as the Oncology Sector of Santa Casa de Rio Claro is the Reference Center in the treatment of this type of cancer in this health region. According to information from an employee of the Oncology Sector, five to six laryngoscopy exams are requested weekly, which means that 250 to 300 exams will be performed per year using the device.
