The community of Arequito is a town in the Department of Caseros, Province of Santa Fe, Argentina, which is located on the side of Provincial Route No. 92 that connects it with the city of Casilda, Department Head, covers an area of 481, 09 km2 and has 6,836 inhabitants according to the 2010 National Population, Household and Housing Census. For more than 25 years it has been developing environmental protection policies. This task, which arises from the need to change deeply rooted customs in the population, begins with training on the differentiation of waste between organic and inorganic at source. The decision of the communal authorities was consolidated with the collaboration of teachers and students from the Merceditas de San Martín and Jardín Mirasoles kindergartens, primary schools No. 202 Mariano Moreno, No. 733 and No. 1114 Nuestra Señora del Rosario, Secondary schools EESO No. 219 Domingo F. Sarmiento and EETP No. 388 Dr. Isidro Maiztegui, Special School No. 2122 and the Rayito de Sol Day Center of the community. Although progress has been made gradually in the separation of waste, there is still 75% of the population that still does not separate the waste, and also of inhabitants who, without placing the waste on the sidewalks, take it (mixed) to the dump in the open air, which prevents its eradication. Among the general objectives of the project are: * Eliminate the open-air dump, bordering the provincial route No. 92, where a large number of residents of neighboring towns travel. * Raise awareness among the inhabitants of urban, suburban and rural areas in the separation of organic and inorganic waste at source. * Organize the treatment and destination of organic waste with the production of compost and inorganic waste with reuse or sale for reuse and/or subsequent recycling, activating circular economy requirements. * Acquire the elements for the treatment and adequacy of waste with the collaboration of companies and institutions. As for this last objective, the authorities of the Arequito Commune are carrying out a campaign to collect funds, whether of provincial origin, or private funds from the town and the area, for the acquisition of supplies and equipment. Permanently eradicating the current open-air dump will contribute to multiple environmental, social, and economic benefits for all beneficiaries.
